In Canton, Ohio, a routine theft arrest nearly ended in tragedy. The suspect pointed a loaded pistol at a police officer and attempted to fire, but the weapon misfired. After a brief struggle, the man was subdued.
21-year-old Shane Newman, who has a prior criminal record, has been charged with attempted murder and several other serious offenses. Bail has been set at $1 million. His accomplice is charged as an accessory; her bail is set at $500,000.
