When Hurricane Serra in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo hit, Paulo Henrique saw a Greater Pitanga chick on the ground. The little creature had fallen out of its nest on an electrical pole. He knew there was no safe way to return the chick and was afraid something might harm it. So, he decided to take the bird home.

The Brazilian built a warm and safe nest for the bird and also created a "mother" to feed it. Using matches, glue, a sponge, cardboard, and dental floss, he created a small device that imitated a bird's beak. The chick immediately raised its head, opened its beak, and began communicating with its "mother." This moment touched the hearts of everyone who saw the video.

Meet Paulo and the chick whose life he recently saved

"On the morning of November 20th, we were returning from work. A chick was lying near the gate of our building. There's a nest on a power pole nearby. It must have fallen due to strong winds during a hurricane that day. We couldn't return it to the nest because it was too high up." "He could have been run over on a busy street, so we took the chick home," Henrique says.

On a windy morning in Serra, Brazil, Paulo spotted a helpless chick on the ground.

"I remembered a video from a veterinary clinic. They were feeding a toucan with an artificial beak. I borrowed the idea. I cut out wings from cardboard, cut off pieces of sponge and glued them together, added two small black eyes, and glued on a cardboard beak. When I approached the chick, it immediately raised its head, opened its beak, and began "communicating" with its "mother." It responded to the feeding call.

He couldn't return it to the nest, so he took it home.

"I often worry about whether I'm caring for it properly. After all, he's a wild animal, and there will always be those who say I'm doing something wrong. So I carefully studied his natural diet. He eats insects, a little meat, and fruit."

"I want to raise him until he's strong enough to fly and survive on his own in the wild. But if the chick decides to stay with us, I'll consider creating a space for him where he can live freely. That's my plan."
