A special team of Jerusalem Fire and Rescue Service personnel rescued a 15-year-old boy who was stuck atop a construction crane.
The man who first spotted the boy and made contact with him said he thought he was looking for a view. The boy climbed over the construction site fence, reached the maximum height, and then slipped and ended up hanging on the counterweight of the tower crane. This happened around midnight the previous night.
The fire brigade chief who rescued the boy believes it all began with an argument or a joke. He told reporters that the boy didn't even have a phone with him to signal distress.
The rescue operation was significantly complicated by the great height and awkward angle of the crane. A rescue team, called by witnesses around 7 a.m. on November 24, reached the top floor, after which they had to climb another 100 meters "hands-on." A system of strong ropes was installed at the top of the structure—one of them was later used to lower the teenager to the ground.
