A spectacular eruption of the Kilauea volcano has begun in Hawaii (1 photo + 3 videos)
Two lava fountains, approximately 400 and 330 meters high, rise above the crater, turning the surrounding area into a fiery spectacle.
Kilauea is located on the island of Hawaii and is part of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Its name means "erupting" in Hawaiian—and for good reason: it is almost constantly active, with major eruptions occurring here every few years.
The volcano's last significant eruptions were observed in 2023. Then, lava filled part of the Halemaumau caldera but did not reach populated areas.
Kilauea's latest eruption is a reminder why it's called "Hawaii's Breath": terrifying and beautiful at the same time.
Experts recorded lava fountains up to 1,500 feet (more than 450 meters) high at Hawaii's Kilauea volcano on the night of October 18. These are the highest eruption heights in several years.
