Bald eagle: a good fisherman and swimmer

The bald eagle catches large fish or waterfowl in a body of water and swims to shore with its prey.

Everyone knows about waterfowl and almost everyone knows about flying fish, but few know that the rapacious bald eagle, America's proud symbol, is also an excellent swimmer.

Nevertheless, it is true. According to ornithologists, fish make up more than half of the eagle's diet. However, this proud bird considers hunting small fish beneath its dignity, and it is physically incapable of taking off with prey weighing more than half its own weight.

So the eagle has learned to swim to the shore to drag large fish. Once on dry land, the predator butchers its catch and feasts.
