Footage of Nepalese Government Members Evacuated During Protests (1 photo + 1 video)
The evacuation was hastily conducted, with some high-ranking officials dangling from ropes dropped from helicopters.
Videos have surfaced online of the unconventional evacuation of high-ranking officials from the government headquarters in Kathmandu during the so-called "Zoomer Revolution."
The footage shows various ministers and their deputies being forced to leave the government building dangling from ropes dropped from a helicopter. It is noted that those government employees who were most reluctant to face the enraged crowd were evacuated in this manner.
Some government representatives were unlucky enough to meet with the rioting Nepalis. Finance Minister Prasad Paudel was caught on the street and beaten. The former prime minister was also injured, but police were able to free him from the crowd. His wife, however, died in a fire in her home set by protesters.
Protests in Nepal erupted after the government's decision to block more than 26 social media and messaging apps, including YouTube, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, due to the companies' failure to register with the local Ministry of Communications within the required deadline. After authorities realized the unrest was escalating, they lifted the ban. But it was too late. Within two days, the protesters had replaced the political regime—Nepal Prime Minister Sharma Oli resigned. Today, it was announced that Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel agreed to dissolve the country's House of Representatives and appoint former Supreme Court Chief Justice Sushila Karka as interim head of government.
According to media reports, most of the protesters were between 15 and 25 years old. Therefore, journalists dubbed the protests, which escalated into unrest, a "Generation Z revolution." At least 30 people were killed during the demonstrations, and more than 1,200 were injured, including 28 police officers.
