Schoolchildren found an account of a physics teacher on a website for adults (6 photos)
Pupils at Bannerman Grammar School in Glasgow discovered their physics teacher's account on a pornographic website and were binge-watching the explicit material. The information quickly reached the head teacher, who was subsequently suspended by the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS).
The 18+ content creator goes by the name 'Jessica Jackrabbit X'.
Shonaid Black, head teacher at Bannerman Grammar School, has spoken of her shock after discovering the indecent images. One of her deputies approached her a few minutes before the end of the school day and showed her pictures of Miss Buchan in her underwear.
She said: "I had a couple of boys come up to me and they were really excited. They were like, 'Have you heard the news?' I said, 'I don't know what you're talking about.' I didn't want to have that conversation with them. Then they said, 'When you find out, you'll go crazy. Watch out for Jessica Jackrabbit.' It was obvious that everyone knew."
Buchan, who attended the school and later became a teacher herself, did not attend the disciplinary hearing.
The headmistress told the committee: "I want to be clear. There is no misconduct in her relationship with the pupils. The issue is that her social media accounts were open and children could see them. Young people need to trust their teachers and their methods. That, to me, is the real issue."
Buchan, 34, immediately resigned. The mother-of-one admitted that the school's income had fallen and she had to look for additional income. In her new job, she earned £60,000 in just one month.
Although more than two years have passed since the page was discovered, the discussions continue.
The headteacher added: “It’s still being talked about. I had parents at school last week and they brought it up. Our school has been associated with a teacher on a pornographic website. After all this, we are very concerned about the safety and wellbeing of our students. We have discussed with them how to protect themselves online.”
Hannah Oakley, who investigated the case, was given access to Buchan’s profile in August 2023. She did not have to register or pay to access the information. She found the profile to be “pornographic and sexually explicit in nature.”
Buchan posted the status on her page: "A good teacher gone bad... very bad."
She was also accused of dishonesty for failing to conceal her identity as a teacher and knowing it would bring the profession into disrepute.
The panel found all allegations proven and concluded that Buchan was unfit to teach.
GTCS spokesman Gary Burton said she had failed to set a good example: "Ms. Buchan has exhibited behaviour that is completely inappropriate. The teacher created and maintained an online profile, advertising and selling subscriptions and access to sexually explicit material about herself. She listed her profession in her biography as a sales tool and a way to attract viewers. She failed to appear at meetings and showed no remorse. Her actions are fundamentally incompatible with the work of a teacher."
