The premiere of the next generation of the popular Toyota RAV4 crossover took place. The appearance of the car was not a big surprise. Now the car will have three variations with different plumage, and only hybrids.
The standard car has retained the recognizable silhouette of its predecessor, which went on sale back in 2018, but is made in the current corporate style of the brand with C-shaped lighting in the front and embossed body contours. It is noteworthy that in the stern of the SUV you can see the features of the senior SUV in the Toyota lineup, namely the Land Cruiser 300. The RAV inherited the shape of the rear pillar from it.
The regular RAV4 is accompanied by the GR Sport modification with an aggressive body kit, as well as the off-road RAV4 Adventure, or Woodland, as it was called in the US market. The latest version has a different front end with a more classic radiator grille, increased ground clearance and a different combination of wheels and tires.
The wheelbase of the SUV has remained the same and is equal to 2690 mm. But the length of the car has grown: the distance between the bumpers varies from 4595 to 4618 mm depending on the version. The width of the base RAV4, as before, is 1855 mm, while the GR Sport and Adventure have added about 25 mm. The height has also changed: the standard crossover rises above the ground by 1701 mm, the adventure variation - by 1722 mm. The trunk volume has increased from 733 to 749 liters.
Inside, the sixth generation RAV4 greets with an angular design of the front panel, which has a built-in 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a projection on the windshield behind it and a large 12.9-inch media complex tablet (in simpler cars there will be a 10.5-inch one), controlled by the Arene operating system, which is new for the brand, with the ability to update over the air and connect two devices at once via Bluetooth.
The designers decided to abandon the usual gear selector, the place of which is now occupied by a small joystick in the style of modern Porsche, and there are significantly fewer buttons on the panels. For example, the climate control unit is mostly virtual, but a number of functions are still left on the keys - they regulate the temperature and turn on the glass heating. The car also has a convenient storage area for a smartphone with wireless charging.
The set of power plants for the RAV4 announced on world markets so far consists only of hybrids. The self-charging version (HEV) has a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine paired with an eCVT and produces up to 236 horsepower in the American specification. It can be ordered both in a front-wheel drive version, which was not previously offered, and in an all-wheel drive version, where a separate electric motor drives the rear wheels.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is also built on the basis of a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, aggregated with two electric motors and a battery (22.7 kW h), providing an electric range of up to 100 km. The total power is 320 horsepower. In Europe, by the way, the PHEV will also be available in a front-wheel drive modification with 268 horsepower.
In Japan, the sixth-generation RAV4 will go on sale before the end of March 2026.
