In Australia, a guide’s advice saved a fisherman from an attack by a giant crocodile

An Australian fisherman narrowly escaped being caught by a four-metre-long saltwater crocodile during a fishing trip on the Mary River, one of the most dangerous places on the continent.

The incident took place in the Northern Territory, home to a record number of predators. The man, as usual, threw the caught fish into the water - and at that moment the back of a crocodile, lurking just a few metres from the boat, emerged from the murky surface. No one saw the predator.

According to tour organiser Jeff Roscoe, the fisherman survived only because he threw the fish into the water, and did not hold it over the side. “If he had hesitated, he would have been dragged away. The crocodile would have just yanked him out of the boat. It was already waiting for the moment,” Roscoe said. He claims that he personally warned tourists in advance: in this region, fish cannot be released in the water - they must be thrown into the water head first to avoid attracting the attention of predators.

“They are perfect killers. They are watching. "Everything that falls into the water is doomed. Death is always close here," Roscoe added. "Birds, crocodiles, sharks - everyone is hunting everyone else. And everything happens at lightning speed." Saltwater crocodiles, which live in Australia, are considered to be among the largest predators on the planet. Males reach seven meters in length and weigh up to two tons. It is in the Mary River area that their concentration is highest in the world.
