A Greater Manchester police officer in the UK had an affair with a criminal and passed him confidential information. Choni Kenny was caught on CCTV when she visited Forest Bank Prison. The girl in uniform kissed her chosen one, which ultimately put an end to her career.





Chonni Kenny, 27, joined the Greater Manchester Police in 2020, and yesterday Liverpool Crown Court sentenced her to three years and nine months in prison.

A two-day trial heard that Kenny had engaged in "casual sexual activity" with Josh Whelan. Judge Neil Flewitt described Josh as a "hardened criminal".

Whelan served two years in prison, from 2021 to 2023. During that time, he had 20 phones, all bought with Kenny's money. The prisoner was seen with the police officer in her BMW. They dined together at Nando's, and then she went to work, where she studied prisoner data.

She gained access to information and intelligence, which she then passed on to her lover, including a statement from his ex-partner who accused him of violence.

After Whelan's release, the couple split and Kenny began a relationship with Raheem Mottley, who was on remand. She told him about the planned police raid.

Judge Flewitt sentenced: "Your actions were not intended to gain financial or other gain and were not malicious. They were the result of your naivety, immaturity and desire to maintain your friendship with Josh Whelan and Raheem Mottley. You should have known it was wrong. You have failed not only the police and the community you serve, but yourself, your family and your friends."

Evidence was presented that Kenny knew about Whelan's drug dealing.

The judge added: "You helped him run this operation from prison."

Alexander Beavers, Whelan's lawyer, said: "He's a convicted felon. And Kenny liked that, she liked that, but she had the status of a police officer. She wanted to take advantage of that."

After Mottley's arrest in February 2022, Kenny searched police systems for information about the investigation and alerted him to a police raid. Mottley was arrested in Spain, where the lovers had spent time.

The woman pleaded guilty to four charges of misconduct in public office.

Mottley, 28, was sentenced to two years and four months. Whelan received two years and eight months in prison. He pleaded guilty to three charges: possession of drugs, possession of a bladed weapon and aggravated assault.

Senior Constable Watson said: "Kenny has breached her duties. These were not isolated incidents but a series of incidents over a long period of time. Sharing police information with criminals is a clear display of dishonesty, dishonesty and moral deficiencies. It confirms her unfitness to be a constable."



Chief Superintendent Mike Allen, head of the Police Professional Standards Directorate, said: "When we become aware of any wrongdoing by our officers, we always carry out a thorough investigation. Kenny abused her position of power and attempted to interfere with a police investigation. She accessed sensitive information and passed it on to a third party. Kenny's prison sentence is right. She is an exception to the thousands of professional, honest and hardworking police officers who serve Greater Manchester."



The British woman was demoted and dismissed from service on April 1, 2025.
