Another proof of the dominance of cats - images on artifacts from the 16th-18th centuries (3 photos)
Among the recent archaeological finds in Moscow are a double-sided seal matrix from the late 16th - early 17th centuries, a 17th-century overlay, and a plot tile from the 18th century. And they all contain images of cats. Coincidence?
A double-sided seal matrix was found near the Church of Elijah the Prophet the Common. On one side is a lion, on the other - a warrior with a sword and dagger in his hands. In the Middle Ages, these images symbolized power and valor. It is interesting that the warrior is shown waist-length on the found signet ring, although traditionally he was depicted in full height or only in profile.

A 17th-century overlay was found in the Obydensky Lanes area. It has a well-preserved image of a lion. Such items could have been used to decorate a belt or a bag.
Another interesting artifact is a Moscow plot tile from the 18th century, found on the territory of the Chizhevsky farmstead. Craftsmen created such tiles both under the influence of ancient Russian terracotta tiles, and in the Dutch manner, which is characterized by blue painting on a white background, images of biblical or genre scenes and animals.
In fact, images of animals, and in particular the cat family, are not uncommon in archaeological finds. Cats certainly rule the world, but that has nothing to do with it.
