900 Engines Steal From Kia Plant In India (1 photo)

Kia's Indian division has contacted the police over the theft of 900 power units from the plant. The missing engines were only noticed five years later, after an audit of the plant following the results of 2024. Before that, no one paid attention to the loss; where the engines went is unknown.



Local police said that the engines had been missing from the plant for five years: the first shortages that were discovered were in 2020. According to investigators, plant personnel and possibly someone from the management were involved in the thefts, but it is still unclear how exactly the engines left the plant's premises.

Initially, it was assumed that the missing units, which were delivered to the plant from partner sites, simply did not reach their destination, as they were stolen en route. However, now the investigation is inclined to think that the engines were taken directly from the assembly plant. At this plant, Kia assembles Syros, Seltos and Carens models for the domestic market; the enterprise is capable of producing up to 400 thousand cars per year.

The company declined to comment, but noted that the situation did not affect the plant's operations.
