TOP 10 oldest actors and actresses who received an Oscar (10 photos)
Recently we did a post about the youngest actors and actresses who received an Oscar. Well, we've covered the youth. Now we can remember the veterans of cinema! Unfortunately, only one actor from the list is still alive.
10. Katharine Hepburn — 74 years, 321 days
Category: Best Actress
Film: On Golden Pond (1981)
Hepburn won the statuette for the fourth time and remains the record holder among actors to this day — no one has more than three.
9. Henry Fonda — 76 years, 317 days
Category: Best Actor
Movie: On Golden Pond (1981)
Yes, that's right, Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda starred together in the same film and both won Oscars at the age of over 70.
For Fonda, this was his first Oscar, not counting the honorary one he had received the year before (the Academy jury had already given up hope that the aging actor would ever have time to deliver another brilliant performance, but it was not to be), and just five months after the ceremony, the actor died. This film was the last in his career.
8. Peggy Ashcroft - 77 years, 93 days
Category: Best Supporting Actress
Film: A Passage to India (1984)
7. Don Amici - 77 years, 297 days
Category: Best Supporting Actor plan
Film: Cocoon (1985)
6. John Gielgud - 77 years, 349 days
Category: Best Supporting Actor
Film: Arthur (1981)
The actor received his statuette at the same ceremony as Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. That year's acting winners were three-quarters over 70.
5. Melvyn Douglas - 79 years, 9 days
Category: Best Supporting Actor
Movie: Being There (1979)
4. George Burns - 80 years, 69 days
Category: Best Supporting Actor plan
Movie: Jolly Fellows (1975)
George Burns is the oldest member of this list. He is the only one born in the 19th century (in 1896). And he lived to be exactly 100 years old!
3. Jessica Tandy - 80 years, 292 days
Category: Best Actress
Movie: Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
Jessica Tandy has held the record for the oldest actress to win an Oscar for 34 years now. Two actors will follow.
2. Christopher Plummer — 82 years, 75 days
Category: Best Supporting Actor
Movie: Beginners (2011)
But Plummer is still the first in one thing: he is the oldest actor to receive an Oscar nomination. He was nominated for the award for his role in the film All the Money in the World (2017) at the age of 88 years and 41 days. This is an absolute record!
1. Anthony Hopkins - 83 years, 115 days
Category: Best Actor
Movie: Father (2020)
The oldest Oscar winner among actors and actresses! He is also the only one on this list who is still alive. That is, Sir Anthony Hopkins may well break his own record, because at 87 he continues to actively act.
