Tokyo Marathon Participant Disqualified for Cunning (4 photos)
If you think that athletes can illegally improve their performance only through medication, then you are deeply mistaken.
Last week, an international marathon of 42.2 km was held in Tokyo. The marathon was a success, all participants ran safely to the finish line as best they could, but there was a scandal.
MGIMO teacher Daria Yadernaya showed the best time among Russian women and took 47th place in the overall women's standings. But her result was annulled, and the girl herself was excluded from the final protocol.
The judges found out that the girl had not checked in at several checkpoints. They began to figure out how this could have happened, and found out that she had simply decided to shorten the route a little. This was clearly against the rules, so they decided to punish the overly cunning participant.
It would seem that this is all, but the meticulous judges decided to check the rest of the marathons in which Daria took part. Over the past 3 years, she ran in Boston, New York, Berlin, London, Chicago and Tokyo. During the check, it turned out that in almost all competitions the girl used this trick, she simply cut the routes, and quite immodestly - shortening them from 8 to 12 km. In this way, she improved her results. This information was confirmed by her former coach.
And if something is quite successful, then why not monetize it, decided Daria and published a book in English: "Running slowly and calmly: winning the race from last place. From 700 m to a marathon in 9 months."
We are not cheaters, we just think strategically.
