The makeup artist works in the subway in the evenings, for one and a half to two hours. She helps girls and women who have an important meeting ahead of them look good.

A Chinese woman named Deng Qiqi opened her business at the busy Shapingba subway station in Chongqing, southwest China, on February 14. She offers quick makeup services to clients heading out on dates.

Her stall usually opens around 5 p.m. and closes at 7:30 a.m. A 28-year-old makeup artist who owns a large beauty salon works on the subway only on weekdays to avoid the busy weekend traffic.

She earns 300 yuan, or about $40, in an hour and a half to two hours. The fee for selling at stalls on the subway is 30 yuan (US$4) during morning or afternoon rush hours, or 80 yuan (US$11) for the whole day.

She does makeup for three or four women who go to parties or on dates after work.

"Some women wear makeup at work, but it fades during the day, so they have to reapply," Dan says.

She doesn't take appointments.

The makeup artist, who has 10 years of experience in the industry, said she only gives clients simple makeup for everyday needs on the subway, but those with more demanding needs can visit her salon.
