A man without genitals in South Africa ended up in prison for rape (3 photos)
A South African man with missing genitals has been jailed for rape. He has been found not guilty and ordered to pay compensation for his false imprisonment.
The 21-year-old man was arrested in 2020 after a neighbour accused him of sexual assault. The case came to the KwaZulu-Natal court after the accused's father told investigators that his son had been abducted as a child, brutally tortured and had his penis and scrotum removed. He provided medical documents confirming the injuries, but the investigator ignored the evidence and did not pass it on to the prosecutor.
As a result, the young man spent almost two months behind bars in difficult conditions. His father independently arranged a meeting with the prosecutor, and only after that the charges were dropped.
Five years later, the court found the arrest unlawful. The man will be paid 800 thousand rand (about 38 thousand dollars) and will be compensated for all legal costs. Despite the acquittal, the authorities have not officially apologized to him.
