In Detroit, cars were first flooded, then frozen (1 photo + 3 videos)

Dozens of cars in one of the Detroit areas were seriously damaged due to a utility failure amid cold weather. The cause of the flood was a break in one of the main water pipes, laid about a hundred years ago. City officials have already promised both assistance and compensation.

The water pipe, almost one and a half meters in diameter, remained broken for several hours: it took rescuers a lot of time not only to redirect the flow, but also to respond, since the accident happened at night.

Due to the cold weather, many cars were literally frozen in ice. It is expected that insurance companies will consider most of the damaged cars beyond repair and send them for disposal. A large number of households were also damaged: hundreds were reported to have been evacuated.

City authorities are calling on car owners not to delay in contacting insurers, offering assistance with removing cars. In addition, it has been promised that essential trips can be made in free taxis. Finally, the authorities are planning to pay compensation for home repairs, and for those left without heat and electricity, to pay for temporary accommodation in hotels.
