Man escapes courthouse through window and climbs down courthouse walls, article
Onoshana Thando Sadiki, who is accused of housebreaking and theft, made a daring escape from the Jeppe Magistrates' Court in Johannesburg. The man climbed out of a window of the three-storey courthouse and climbed down before fleeing the scene.
CCTV footage shows him scaling the side of the building, jumping from the ground floor to the second floor and escaping down the stairs. Despite temporarily eluding police, he was re-arrested the following day.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevkhukhulvi said Sadiki would face an additional charge of escaping from custody.
"The suspect escaped while appearing in court on charges of housebreaking and theft," he said.
Sadiki gave a statement after his arrest, explaining his actions.
"I saw that the window was open and decided to take advantage of the moment. I want my case to be heard as soon as possible, I don't want to go back to court," the suspect added.
