The incident occurred last Wednesday at Cheongju International Airport in South Korea, when Eastar Jet Flight 703 was delayed due to weather conditions. Three flight attendants opened the emergency exit and staged an impromptu photo shoot on the wing of the Boeing 737.

Seoul-based Eastar Jet said the crew had been instructed to open the emergency exit as part of a training exercise.

“The airline took advantage of the heavy snowfall standby period to conduct an evacuation drill, which is usually difficult to organize,” an Eastar Jet representative said, but did not approve the photo shoot.

Since Cheongju Airport is a military facility, photography and videography are strictly prohibited.

The airline has launched an investigation into the employees. According to local media, they face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.

The incident comes amid growing concerns about air safety following a string of crashes.

On January 29, a Black Hawk military helicopter collided with a PSA Airlines Bombardier CL-600-2C10 airliner that was preparing to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the United States, killing all 67 passengers and crew.

On February 17, a Delta Air Lines plane flipped while landing at Toronto Airport in Canada, injuring 18 people.
