British military gets jet suit that allows them to fly at 137 km/h (5 photos + 3 videos)
British engineer Richard Browning has designed a jet suit with five gas turbines to lift him to a height of 20 feet and reach an impressive speed of 85 mph. The CEO of Gravity Industries has already struck deals with two Western allies to supply the gear that will allow him to hover over war zones and land on enemy ships.
“Our suits do look like something out of a Marvel movie, but it’s a serious international business,” Browning told The Times. “We are in the process of doing a number of deals with two Western allies, particularly on maritime mobility, which allows special forces to quickly engage targets.”
Those interested can try out the jet suit at the Goodwood estate in West Sussex or in California, although this pleasure will cost $8,200.
Royal Navy marines have already tested the equipment in the English Channel. In an impressive video, a soldier easily takes off from a boat and lands on the deck of the HMS Tamar using a jet-powered suit.

Browning studied at King's College London and then Cardiff University before founding Gravity Industries in March 2017. In less than a decade, his company has flown more than 300 jetsuits at events in 50 different countries, including Vietnam late last year.

The inventor said: "The jet suit creates a thrust of up to 144 kg; the thrust-to-weight ratio is greater than that of any jet fighter we know of."
The futuristic craft is equipped with five turbine engines that point downwards. The turbines, attached to the arms, allow for easy maneuvering. The person takes off vertically, and the helmet screen displays information about fuel consumption.

In challenging conditions such as forest fires or remote mountain slopes, this suit will be indispensable for rescue operations.
In 2022, British medics tested the gear in rain and strong winds.
“We don’t see the medical industry as a source of profit. But it’s still very important to us. We are planning to set up a charity to increase our ability to save lives,” Browning commented.

In November 2019, he set a world record for the fastest movement in his jet suit. Richard flew over the English Channel at a speed of 135 kilometers per hour.
And recently Browning demonstrated the capabilities of the device at the Army People conference in Farnborough.
