In the Czech Republic, beavers built a dam in two days, which the authorities had been coordinating for seven years (4 photos)
The toothy ones wiped the noses of officials and saved the state a million dollars.
In the Czech Republic, the authorities were developing a project to swamp the Brdy landscape park. First, they prepared the project, then they coordinated it with all authorities. This red tape has been going on since 2018.
They wanted to build a dam on a drainage canal built by soldiers at a former military base many years ago to drain the area. First they drained it, then they decided to flood it again. That's exactly what the project was designed for - but the officials couldn't agree with each other. And the estimate was appropriate - 30 million Czech crowns ($1.2 million dollars).
But the beavers living in this park got tired of waiting for bureaucrats. They built the dam themselves from young aspen. It took 2 days, and 8 animals worked on the "project".
Beavers can build a dam in one night, maximum two. While people need to get a building permit, approve the project and find money for it, - said zoologist Jiri Vlček.
Jaroslav Obermayer, head of the Czech Agency for Nature and Landscape Protection, was also happy for the animals:
Beavers always know better than anyone else. The places where they build dams are always chosen correctly - better than when we design them on paper.
Now the Czech Republic is thinking about the efficiency of government and bureaucracy. While they are thinking about this, the beavers will have time to build another ten dams.
