Monkey gangs in Thailand are fighting the police (6 photos)

In Lopburi, residents are bullied by the most ruthless, crazy gangs that can even take over your home! Only these… monkey gangs. There were a lot of them here before, but because of Covid and isolation, they have become even more brazen and consider the whole city theirs.

So Thailand had to introduce new staff units – monkey patrol units.

How did the Thais get to this point in their lives

Lopburi is famous for its long-tailed macaques; the city holds an annual banquet for them. But in recent years, the population has exploded, causing problems. The treats provided by locals and tourists have become insufficient, so the monkeys have become increasingly aggressive in their demands for food, or have simply snatched it from tourists. The big guys, in particular, have been known to attack cars or push people.

The battle between humans and monkeys reached a tipping point earlier this year when a woman dislocated her knee after being kicked in the back by a monkey who was expecting treats from her.

What does the anti-monkey patrol do?

1200 were put behind bars, they will get tattoos there and will work in the monkey "Sberbank service"!

In April, after growing complaints from residents, authorities began rounding up thousands of monkeys and placing them in large enclosures for sterilization and registration.

But these are all temporary solutions while the authorities try to find a more permanent solution. Because soon after the "arrests" began, about 30 monkeys escaped and broke into a police station (!!!).

Moreover, you can't feed all the captive monkeys, and starving them in a cage is really cruel.

The monkey response team consists of four men armed with slingshots. And the slingshots... are unloaded!

"It scoots, but doesn't bite."

The monkey control police use unloaded slingshots to simply intimidate the monkeys. They stretch them out as if they were trying to take aim, to scare off the troop. But the cunning animals are beginning to see through the deception.

"Our unit is a patrol unit for prevention and suppression," says Amarith, the head of one of the units.

There are an estimated 4,000 monkeys in Lopburi, keeping the monkey control unit on their toes.

We need to make a huge zoo, the monkeys are already there

Recently, an operation was carried out to save the school from an invasion of marauding monkeys. They resort to the school because it is easier to rob children, and they have food with them. At the same time, they steal phones and equipment, some just out of spite, some to exchange it for food.

In addition, the monkeys have taken a liking to swimming in the school pool. They also pee and poop there, so the schoolchildren could no longer use it.

At the beginning of classes, teachers give instructions on how to behave with monkeys: do not look monkeys in the eye and do not walk alone, so as not to become a target.

There are reminders for tourists all over the city about the rules of behavior with monkeys

The authorities have already caught more than 1,200 monkeys, but new "arrests" are planned. However, there is no budget to feed at least 2,000 monkeys in cages, although local residents bring food for free so that the monkeys do not suffer.
