A man fell out of his mistress’s car and died: his wife demanded $82,000 from her rival (2 photos)

In China, the widow of a man who died when he was thrown from his mistress's car in a crash has failed to secure 600,000 yuan ($82,000) in compensation in court.

A man surnamed Wang from eastern Jiangsu province met his mistress surnamed Liu in 2022 and began an extramarital affair. In July 2023, a drunk Wang fell out of Liu's BMW while she was driving.

Liu immediately stopped the car, checked on Wang, and called an ambulance. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead 24 hours later from a head injury.

A police investigation revealed that the couple had been talking about breaking up before the accident. Liu first told Wang that she wanted to leave him, but she refused. On the night of his death, Wang texted Liu to ask her to return the bracelet and SIM card he had bought her. He drove to her home and crashed her car, then asked Liu to give him a ride and have dinner together. As they were leaving a restaurant at midnight, Wang asked Liu to give him a ride because he was drunk. Wang did not wear his seat belt and fell out of the car.



The police did not hold Liu responsible for the accident, although they did not specify the reason why Wang fell from the car.

Some netizens speculated that it was because the car door was not closed properly.

Wang's wife, children, and parents repeatedly demanded compensation from Liu before going to court and asking for 600,000 yuan. The court did not support her claim and only ordered Liu to pay compensation of 65,000 yuan (US$8,900).

The court said Liu "did not commit serious negligence or bear great responsibility in this case."

The judge said they often take into account the loss of victims' relatives when making decisions related to accidents that result in death or serious injury, but they must make fair decisions based on facts and the law.

"The moral of the story is that you shouldn't have extramarital affairs," one user said. "This is quite a severe punishment for a man and his mistress," another added.
