The city council took the event with humor and was glad that the illumination brought joy to people.
In the British city of Fleet, Hampshire (England), the festive illumination on the main street caused a heated discussion among locals. Many drew attention to the unusual similarity of the light decorations with underwear hanging on a line.
Many social media users began to actively joke about the unsuccessful Christmas decoration.
Town resident Stephen Kellett joked: "If they're not supposed to look like underwear, then how else are they supposed to look? I just can't see them as anything else." Another local, Matt, added: "It's like an optical illusion - once you've seen them, you can't unsee them."
Michelle Anne Chambers agreed, saying: "Yes, they do look like underwear. But to be honest, it doesn't bother me."
Fleet Borough Council took the incident with a grain of salt.
"This is not exactly the effect we were going for. But whether you see pants, lanterns or modern design, we are glad that our illuminations evoke joy, discussion and even unexpected humor," the representative of the administration noted.
The council also emphasized that the purpose of the decorations is to create a festive atmosphere and make the main street more cozy.
"It is nice to know that our lights make people smile and lift their spirits both during the day and at night. Thank you for your observations - they add bright moments to the life of our city," the representative added.
