How to avoid an eye infection that What causes a common habit? (4 photos)
When it comes to boundaries in relationships with pets, many of us make the mistake of allowing our pets to lie on beds and sofas. An ophthalmologist reminded us of the dangers and gave recommendations on how to avoid contracting a parasitic infection from dogs.
American ophthalmologist Dan Friederich can tell if a person sleeps with their dog in the same bed by the presence of parasites on their eyelashes. And cases of detection of mites, such as demodex, are much more common than we can imagine.
"There is a common condition caused by a mite called demodex that lives on the eyelashes. When I see it on someone, the first thing I ask is, 'Does your dog sleep with you?'" he explained.
What is demodex and how do you get rid of it?
Each of us has a small number of these mites, less than a millimeter long, living on our skin. But a sharp increase in their numbers can lead to such ailments as blepharitis. The disease causes eye irritation, blurred vision, and the formation of ulcers.
To get rid of parasites, you need to thoroughly treat all infested bedding and clothing. This means either washing and drying at a very high temperature, or sealing the items in an airtight plastic bag to kill the pests, and then washing as usual. And, of course, it is worth giving your pet a separate bed.
It should be noted that demodicosis in cats is much less common than in dogs.
