A Chinese startup has unveiled a strange musical instrument - a digital guitar. Instead of strings, it has touch-sensitive zones for touching.
Lava Music has unveiled an unusual musical instrument, Genie, on Kickstarter. It is a digital hybrid in the shape of a guitar, but without strings, reminiscent of the controller from Guitar Hero. Instead of the usual strings, Genie is equipped with a touch panel with five glowing zones for launching samples, sounds, and beats. The body has an area for simulating strings, and the neck is divided into zones for playing chords.
The instrument is controlled by a combination of taps, swipes and touches on the sensory fretboard. The sound is produced by an acoustic system: two 12-watt broadband speakers in the front and a 20-watt bass speaker in the back. There is also an output for connecting to an external amplifier. The built-in battery provides up to 6 hours of operation, charging is carried out via USB-C. For ease of transportation, the instrument is disassembled into two parts and placed in a special case or backpack.
Genie can be used independently immediately after unpacking, but maximum functionality is revealed through a mobile application. It offers thousands of songs and hundreds of sounds, as well as an AI tool for transposing user compositions. However, some of the functions of the Lava+ application are available by subscription. The Kickstarter price for the tool is $350, with shipping scheduled for December.
