It's always a joy when animal rights activists manage to save an animal from extinction. Such news lifts the spirits. But... there are creatures in nature that almost no one feels positive about. For example, like this spider, which can grow to the size of a rat. And it was saved from extinction in the UK.

The species is called Dolomedes plantarius. In 2010, these spiders were on the verge of extinction, since people practically destroyed their habitat. British zoos came to the rescue. After 14 years, they managed to revive the population of these large spiders - now there are 10 thousand females in Chester Zoo. And yes, they are all the size of a rat... Arachnaphobes are happy.
