Then they were surrounded by a crowd of angry citizens and, if the police had not intervened, the monarch would have become very sad.
On October 30, Spain was hit by a catastrophic flood. Many provinces suffered, but Valencia was hit the hardest.
Consequences of the flood:
When the water subsided, citizens went to empty the stores of food. Although many simply had no choice - the authorities did not provide normal food supplies, and people needed something to eat and feed their children. However, there were plenty of looters, too, and the police detained more than 50 people.
Spanish King Philip VI with his wife Letizia and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez came to support the victims. They entered the city of Paiporta with a huge motorcade.
And they went to talk to citizens on the street - apparently, they expected to be met by an enthusiastic crowd with flowers. Instead, they received a portion of obscene insults.
Then people started throwing dirt at the monarch and chanting:
"Get out! Get out! Murderers!"
The crowd began to press on the king from all sides, the police and bodyguards had to intervene. They took the august person away from the people's love and the monarch quickly left the stricken city.
According to the latest data, at least 200 people died due to the flood, about 1900 are missing.
