A skyscraper in Louisiana was demolished after a hurricane
The 114-meter Capital One Tower has been one of the most famous symbols of the American city of Lake Charles, Louisiana, for more than 40 years. Last weekend, it became history. The building was demolished by targeted explosions because it had stood abandoned for a long time, having become a victim of two hurricanes at once.
The building was seriously damaged in late August after Hurricane Laura passed through. Then, 25 people died in the region, and the total damage reached $23 billion. Six weeks later, the Capital One Tower was damaged by a second hurricane, Delta, after which further use of the high-rise became impossible. For its reconstruction, it was necessary to find $167 million at once, but this was not possible. In the end, the city found only $7 million, which was enough to demolish the skyscraper.
