In Peru, thieves were forced to publicly repent for theft

Locals put on a public spectacle for the detainees, forcing them to run and do push-ups while confessing to stealing auto parts. This method was meant not only to punish the criminals, but also to discourage others from breaking the law.

In the end, the thieves paid 20,000 Peruvian soles ($5,000) for the stolen parts, which were divided among the car owners.
