Elon Musk was accused of harassment and creating a hostile work environment (3 photos)
After Musk was finally given a record bonus at Tesla, eight former SpaceX employees filed a lawsuit against the enterprising billionaire.
They were fired from the rocket company back in 2022 after a highly provocative letter claiming that Musk was “running his company like it was in the dark ages: treating women like sex objects who are judged by their bra size, bombarding the workplace with lewd sexual banter. And if employees don’t like it, they can look for work elsewhere.”
At first, those fired tried to sue the company itself, but SpaceX representatives politely sent them away and filed a counterclaim, which is still in court. Now, offended by vulgar jokes, the ex-employees decided to fight with Musk himself. The lawsuit was filed June 12 in California state court in Los Angeles, according to a copy provided by the attorneys.
“Musk thinks he is above the law. Our eight courageous clients spoke out against him and were fired for it,” Laurie Burgess, the plaintiffs’ attorney, said in a statement. “We look forward to holding Musk accountable for his actions in court.”
Gwynne Shotwell and Elon Musk
Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, said that this is all a lie and a provocation and that Elon is one of the best people she knows. She told reporters that SpaceX fully investigates all harassment complaints and takes appropriate action.
