It seems Musk has a serious competitor.
The Atlas V launch vehicle carrying the Boeing Starliner manned spacecraft successfully launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida. This is the first manned flight for the Starliner. It is noted that the launch was planned to take place on May 6, but due to problems with the valve of the ULA Atlas V rocket, it was postponed first to June 1, and then to the 5th.
The Starliner spacecraft will deliver NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to the ISS in about a day. They will spend only 8 days at the station, then go back. The main purpose of today's launch is to test the new spacecraft's ability to safely transport crews to the ISS and return them to Earth.
The mass of the CST-100 Starliner is 13 tons. It was launched for the first time to the ISS in unmanned mode in December 2019. In May 2022, despite the technical problems that arose, the second test flight of the ship was successfully completed.
