Apple peelers were popular kitchen tools in the 19th century.
They were used to quickly and easily remove the peel, core and seeds of apples.
The 1868 apple peeler would have been a manual machine, with a handle that had to be twisted to rotate the blades.
The blades would be made of steel and would be sharp enough to cut the skin of apples without damaging the flesh.
