“If I had teeth there”: how an anti-rape trap was created, with which a woman feels protected (5 photos)

The product looks like a large condom, but there is a nuance.

The number of rapes continues to rise in many countries. Women do not feel safe, but many years ago they developed an interesting thing that can be useful in the current realities.

The product is called RapeX. It looks like a condom, the inner part of which is equipped with serrations, and the outer part is smooth. This device is placed in a woman's vagina just like a tampon, but it works differently: any attempt to perform friction will lead to the barbs digging into the man's genital organ. Freeing the penis from RapeX will be extremely difficult and, most likely, only through surgery.

The product is made of latex, and the anti-rape condom will also protect the woman from STDs and unwanted pregnancy if the man somehow manages to ejaculate.

It is interesting that this “trap” has been known for quite a long time (since 2005); it was developed by a medical woman from South Africa, Sonette Ehlers. To make the most sophisticated contraceptive possible, she even went to prison, where she interviewed habitual rapists. The doctor was interested in the question: would such a device have stopped them? Many answered that they would not rape a woman if they knew that there was such a trap inside her. After such a survey, the doctor became inspired and began to actively talk about her know-how.

In South Africa, where violence is not something out of the ordinary, Sonnet dreamed of protecting women from encounters with potentially dangerous men, so she advertised her invention and at the same time looked for investors.

It was reported that a trial batch of RapeX was planned to be distributed to South Africa before the World Cup football matches, but no evidence was ever found that this had been done.

In January 2017, information appeared about the launch of a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of continuing to develop the product to bring it to market, but apparently there was no success in promotion. Even in 2020, the campaign was still far from its goal of raising $310,000 for production.

The topic of the anti-rape trap comes up periodically, they talk about it again, but it seems that things are still there. Let's see if manufacturers will ever be able to make a condom with teeth as popular a means of protection as, say, a pepper spray.
