A girl accidentally threw into the trash the hard drive on which her boyfriend's 8 thousand bitcoins were stored (3 photos)

Only babies do not know this story in the town of Newport (USA). It's no coincidence that the local town dump has become a hotspot for treasure hunters, who come daily to rummage through the rubbish in search of a mistakenly discarded hard drive containing 8,000 bitcoins (£1.5 billion). What happened to the girl of the guy whose, literally heaven on Earth, she sent to the trash bin is not reported.

The British tabloid Daily Mail writes about the tragic events in the fate of 38-year-old James Howells, who lost 8 thousand bitcoins (1.5 billion pounds sterling) in one day.

His girlfriend mistakenly threw the treasure into the trash. As the publication said, in the few years since this terrible moment, the victim was able to figure out where his bitcoins had gone. And they went straight to the landfill in Newport.

The hard drive ended up in a landfill in 2013. Developer and early crypto investor James Howells kept two hard drives in his desk drawer. One contained 8 thousand bitcoins, and he was going to throw away the second. For some reason, it was the precious disc that was wrapped in a black plastic bag. By mistake, it was the disc with the cryptocurrency that ended up in the trash bin.

James has since been trying to recover the disc from a council-run landfill and has narrowed the search to an area that would involve digging up 100,000 tonnes of rubbish buried under grassy hills.

However, a household waste recycling center in Newport, South Wales, has installed 24-hour security and CCTV surveillance after local treasure hunters began flocking to the landfill daily to scour the rubbish for a discarded hard drive containing bitcoins.

The fence and security, however, do not help very much.

Over the past few years, Howells has been trying over and over again to get permission to dig into the landfill to recover the hard drive. The Welsh administration disagrees. So far, even Howells’ promise to transfer part of the found amount to the authorities if he is given official permission has not helped, but the government is still against it. Authorities believe that searchers are putting themselves in danger and that the search is violating environmental regulations.

Not a needle in a haystack!
