A kind-hearted British woman spent the whole night caring for a sick hedgehog, but when she took it to the veterinarians, it turned out that it was not a hedgehog at all. And not even a porcupine.

A resident of the English city of Knutsford found what she believed to be a wounded creature on the sidewalk and looked after it all night. The next morning, she took the motionless mammal to the veterinarians, where she greatly surprised the staff and learned an unexpected truth.

This is what a hedgehog found by a kind British woman looks like

The woman brought him to the veterinary clinic in a box carefully lined with newspapers. She even placed a small saucer of food next to him.

But when veterinarian Janet Kotze opened the box, she realized that the “hedgehog” actually belonged not at the vet, but in a winter hat.

The clinic employee couldn’t believe her eyes when she looked at the brought animal.

Because it was not an animal at all! Not only was it not a hedgehog, it was not a living creature at all. The woman brought a fur pompom from a hat in a box!

When the British woman was told this news, she asked candidly: “Are you kidding?” Here's what Janet Kotze (pictured) had to say:

I was worried because it was still very early for hedgehogs. I opened the box and couldn't believe what I saw. I thought: “This is definitely not a hedgehog, perhaps some other furry creature.” Realizing that it showed no signs of life at all, I picked it up and, obviously, given its weight, felt that it was not a hedgehog or any animal at all.

The woman was very sweet, God bless her, her heart was in the right place. She took the box from me and left pretty quickly.

The clinic staff shared this story with the media for a reason.

Not just for the sake of publicizing a funny incident. Janet Kotze continues:

It's a golden rule that hedgehogs shouldn't go outside during the day, especially ones that small, and the woman did absolutely the right thing - except for the fact that it wasn't a hedgehog. If hedgehogs are found in the open during the day, this means that something is wrong with them and they should be helped.
