Jaguar jumps out at tourists in the jungle of Peru
Tourists traveling through the jungle in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, came face to face with a jaguar.
The group's guide, Fernando Tapia Vera, said that the most surprising thing about the beast's attack was the surprise. Everyone was convinced how skillfully predators can hide, because until the jaguar jumped out of the thickets, no one suspected that he was close.
Fortunately, Fernando managed to scare the beast away with a machete, and after a couple of minutes the jaguar left (at this time the tourists raised their hands and made threatening sounds to also contribute to the intimidation). The guide, who escaped with a few scratches on his legs, added that he had always wanted to meet a jaguar in the wild, but not under such dramatic circumstances.
The incident was commented on by biologist Gustavo Figueiroa, who is confident that initially the jaguar did not intend to hurt anyone and only wanted to frighten people in order to drive them away from its territory. But the specialist approved the actions of the guide and tourists - they did the right thing, showing the wild “cat” their numerical superiority and how “big and scary” they were.
