Many people don’t like good kids and excellent students. Although, it would seem... for what? They study diligently and try hard, help everyone, look neat and are always friendly. But... how annoying they are! Yes, the comparison may be so-so, but many will probably agree. And this is great for Oscar-winning films. They were favored by critics, collected a whole bunch of awards, but ordinary people did not appreciate their enthusiasm. Of course, this selection contains solid and good films, and not complete rubbish. However, despite the prestigious film awards, ordinary viewers simply said “it’ll do,” giving it 6 out of 10.

Residence permit (1990)

IMDb: 6.3

The romantic comedy was awarded a Golden Globe and nominated for an Oscar. Gerard Depardieu, who played the main role, also received a Hollywood Award (Golden Globe) for his acting.

Bugsy (1991)

The biographical crime drama won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture, but it is not popular among most foreign audiences.

In this film, Julian Fellowes and Robert Altman, who won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and a Golden Globe for Directing respectively, laugh at cliched detective stories.

Descendants (2011)

Evita (1996)

IMDb: 6.3

Babe: Four Legged Baby (1995)

IMDb: 6.9

There is a common belief in the film industry that animals in a film are the key to success. This technique really often coincides with the audience’s requests (who would refuse cute little animals?). True, this time the talking animals had no effect on them. However, the film still received a Golden Globe in the category Best Film (Comedy or Musical).

The Shape of Water (2017)

The number of awards that this film by Guillermo del Toro received cannot be counted on one hand. The most prestigious among them, of course, were received at the Oscars in four of the thirteen nominations: best film, best director, best music, best production designer. Probably, the too unusual plot, based on the love of a mute girl and a fantastic amphibian, confused the viewer.

Dream Girls (2006)

IMDb: 6.6

The musical, inspired by the 1960s girl group The Supremes, won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Hudson) and Best Sound, as well as three Golden Globes: Best Picture (Musical), Best Actress (Jennifer Hudson) and male (Eddie Murphy) supporting roles. The musical practically did not come into view of the viewer.

BlacKkKlansman (2018)

The comedy drama about the collapse of the Ku Klux Klan received an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as two awards at the Cannes Film Festival (Grand Prix and Christian Jury Award).

American Hustle (2013)

The film received a Golden Globe for Best Comedy, and the same award was given to Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress. The film became the second most nominated film in history without receiving any. The black comedy with a strong cast (Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K.) gained great popularity in America.

Borat 2 (2020)

IMDb: 6.6

British-AmericanCanadian black comedy, which was nominated for an Oscar and received two Golden Globes: best film and best comedy actor (Sacha Baron Cohen). Although the film caused a lot of discontent and protests, it also became one of the most popular at the time of its release, and a tourism company in Kazakhstan used the main character's phrase (“very nice”) to attract attention.

Women Speak (2022)

IMDb: 6.9

The drama received an Oscar in the category for best adapted screenplay, but did not gain much popularity among foreign viewers.

West Side Story (2021)

The remake of the musical about the confrontation between two street gangs was very warmly received abroad. Of the seven Oscar nominations, Ariana Debos received the award for Best Supporting Actress. And the Golden Globes awarded the musical three awards: Best Picture, Best Actress (Rachel Zegler) and Best Supporting Actress.
