Strange and unusual inventions from the past (10 photos)
At all times, people have strived to make their lives better, more comfortable and simpler. Therefore, various specialists tried to invent more and more new devices that were supposed to help with this. Some of them are still used today, because they really made human life easier, and some... Let's just say, they raise questions. Therefore, this small selection contains unusual and interesting inventions from the past.
Spaghetti fork
Tell me, do you have a problem using a fork when eating spaghetti? Apparently Russell Oakes had this problem. So he invented a fork that made twirling spaghetti easier. However, the statement is controversial, since everything had to be done by hand in any case. As for me, with such a thing it’s only more difficult. Walking cages
A questionable design that was nevertheless used in the past. People attached special cages to the windows, and sat their children in them so that they could “take a walk.”
Unusual shaving machine
In the 19th century, a machine appeared that could shave several men at once. However, such a device was not successful, since it was impossible to adjust the blades to different faces, which is why the result was often not the best.
Rail train with propeller
This unusual carriage was invented by Franz Krukenberg back in 1929. This device moved with the help of a powerful propeller. Judging by the surviving information, the carriage could accelerate to 230 km/h on rails, and cover the distance from Hamburg to Spandau (270 km) in 1 hour and 36 minutes.
Robot vacuum cleaner
Many may think that robot vacuum cleaners are a fairly modern thing, but they appeared back in 1957. The first patented robot was controlled by remote control and was part of Whirpool's "Kitchen of the Future".
Periscope glasses
Similar glasses can be seen in online stores to this day. And they were invented back in 1936. It's simple - the design allows you to read books while lying on your back. Convenient, perhaps, but I haven't tried it. Perhaps you have similar experience? Write in the comments!
Amphibious bicycle
This model of an unusual bicycle was presented in Paris in 1932, and was called the “cyclomer”. This is an amphibious bicycle that was equipped with floats and could move on water.
Radio stroller
In the 1920s, many people could no longer live without a radio, so a rather unusual invention appeared in some countries - radio strollers. Yes, these are ordinary strollers for children, but they were equipped with massive radio boxes.
Morrison's Hideout
British experts, offering citizens more security, came up with an unusual design. This is a shelter that was installed at home and protected people from collapse as a result of the bombing. And, yes, these boxes saved many during the Second World War, since they could easily withstand the weight of ceilings and collapsed walls.
Family bike
This is a truly unusual device. This is a bicycle that was meant to be transport for the whole family. Or entertainment - or both. Two people had to pedal. But mom could always sit on the lower level and do sewing! Yeah, it's a really strange invention. How do you like it?
