A Ferrari 250 GTE sports coupe, released in 1963, was sold at the RM Sotheby’s Paris auction. During its 60-year history, it managed to be a professional racing car, but was then returned to factory condition. The final bid for the car was 387,500 euros.
The Ferrari 250 family was produced from 1952 to 1964. The models had a wheelbase of 2400 and 2600 millimeters and used a three-liter V12 engine. Its impact reached 300 forces. It is believed that the 2+2 version of the Gran Turismo literally saved the brand from collapse.
The two-door Ferrari 250 GTE, as legend has it, was developed at the request of Enzo Ferrari himself. The body is from the Pininfarina studio. The model was produced in almost 1000 copies, which significantly exceeded the volume of any other Ferrari.
The presented car is equipped with a 240-horsepower engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine is still original, which is surprising considering the history of the car. In 1986 it was purchased by an Italian racing team and competed in the Targa Florio Classica and Coppa del Appennino, among others.
A later owner removed all the racing gear and restored the car to its factory appearance. Now it is again painted in its original blue color, and the interior is trimmed with light beige leather.
