A huge seal weighing 600 kg walks through the gardens and sleeps on the roads of the town of Dunnaly, Tasmania. Neil has already become a celebrity, and the locals are tolerant of his antics.

Neil first came ashore at Dannali in July 2022, when he was not even two years old.

A social network page was created for Pinnipeds to document his adventures. And his life is now followed by more than 128 thousand subscribers.

At the beginning of December, the seals returned to the shore for another layover - a period of rest on land. Neil immediately visited the town, where he caused a stir: he lay in front of the real estate office, and caused disturbances near the cafe.

Despite its size, it has a playful character and has become a favorite among local residents.

New pictures and videos show Neil chewing on traffic cones and causing disruption to traffic.

Despite his bulk, Nile is able to move quickly if he is being pursued.

In November, Neil prevented a local woman from going to work by lying down in front of her car.

Amber Harris woke up at 6:20 a.m. to the sound of someone trying to break into her car. It was actually a pinniped that had made its way to Amber's house at the other end of the beach.

More and more tourists are visiting Dannali in the hope of seeing the playful animal. And this becomes a problem.

"We have to remember that these are wild animals," says Mary-Ann Leah, professor at the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania. "It's normal for animals to be cute and interact in a safe way, but then they get bigger and exhibit other natural behaviors." , along with hormones, and you may not like it."

The owner of his page was also forced to stop posting information about Nile's current location after negotiations with marine biologists.

The professor recalled the story of the walrus woman Freya, who drew crowds in Norway in 2022, climbing onto boats and basking in the sun. However, the Norwegian authorities recognized her as a threat to human safety and euthanized her.

“She was literally loved to death,” Leah said.

In August, a seal pup died of shock after a woman picked it up despite being told not to.

The woman alerted the wildlife agency, then wrapped the cub in a coat and placed it in the back seat of the car.
