The creator of the most popular and best-selling pistol in the world has passed away at the age of 94.
Reclusive billionaire Gaston Glock lived in Austria on the shore of a lake, surrounded by security guards, financiers, lawyers and servants. According to media reports, the famous designer died of natural causes, that is, of old age.
"Our founder, Gaston Glock, not only revolutionized the firearms world in the 1980s, but also established the Glock brand as a global leader in the firearms industry," the company's website states.
He founded the world-famous Glock company at the age of 34, in 1963. However, initially the company was engaged in the production of auxiliary equipment for the military and law enforcement agencies, until in the early 1980s Gaston Glock developed a lightweight nine-millimeter Glock-17 pistol.
The pistol turned out to be extremely successful - both in terms of design, and in terms of accuracy and reliability. In 1983, a year after the start of production of the new pistol model, the Glock-17 was adopted by the Austrian army. A year later, it passed NATO tests, and after a short time, the Norwegian army accepted the Glock-17 as a standard firearm. After that, things went uphill for the arms company. The Austrian engineer's pistol received worldwide recognition and became "the weapon of choice for international law enforcement agencies."
Glock remains the largest supplier of firearms to law enforcement agencies worldwide. Two-thirds of American police departments purchase Glock pistols. And in at least 48 countries around the world, this pistol is popular among police and other law enforcement agencies.
