A wallet that was lost in 1958 was found in the oldest movie theater in Atlanta, USA. The wallet was found behind the wall of the toilet, where the storage room used to be located. “It’s like a portal to the past,” said Plaza Cinema owner Chris Escobar.

As the 84-year-old movie theater is the city's oldest, Escobar has come across items from the past such as liquor bottles and popcorn displays, but the "history-filled" wallet came as a surprise.

Inside the dusty wallet were black-and-white family photographs, a lottery ticket promising a shiny 1959 Chevrolet, and an insurance policy. It also contained maps for local department stores Davison's and Rich's, as well as receipts for 10 gallons of gasoline for only $3.26.

But the most important find was a driver's license in the name of Floy Culbreth.

Chris and his wife Nicole soon found an obituary for Culbreth's husband, Roy, and social media led them to the couple's 71-year-old daughter, Thea Chamberlain, who lived less than 20 minutes from the theater.

It turned out that Floy Culbreth died more than 10 years ago. Her daughter was not at all surprised that her mother lost her wallet; this often happened to her.

Chamberlain said that her mother was a Sunday school teacher who actively helped patients with cerebral palsy, for whom their family annually holds a golf tournament.

“This is touching. A flood of memories came flooding back, and it seemed to bring my mother back to life,” the daughter commented on the find.

Culbreath's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to the movie theater to pick up her wallet.

Chamberlain watched her young grandchildren look at items from their great-grandmother's purse and it was a "special moment."

"They knew it was something worth cherishing."
