Dance in the air and possibilities beyond the unique acrobatic duet (15 photos)

Are you afraid of heights? Many will answer this question positively. And the absolute majority, if not afraid, are very wary of her and do not flirt with her unless necessary. But not this amazing duet.





Benny and Betty Fox, the famous death-defying "sky dancers", were stated on the posters as relatives. But they were not sister and brother. And the girl was not always the same. Benny just liked the name, and the combination turned out to be suitable for attracting attention.



The first Betty was the wife of the acrobat Nano Clifford. But in 1945, she stopped performing with her husband, since taking care of children and the house was a more troublesome task, but also safer, when compared with stunts over the Chicago streets without signs of insurance.





Fox's next partner was a girl named Clara. For several years in a row, the acrobatic duo made the audience groan and flinch, but then Clara began to gain weight. And although she “gained weight” to only 55 kilograms, her partner considered him excessive, fired her and replaced her with Alice.

The names of the following girls have not been preserved in history. But, undoubtedly, they were very, very brave if they agreed to dance without insurance on a tiny disk located on a 30-meter pole.



The Illinois State Journal, in an effort to attract subscribers, sponsored acrobats to come to town at least twice, in 1937 and 1946. On their first visit, they held six performances in one day - October 6th. The last evening's performance was illuminated by four powerful spotlights.



Every centimeter of free space in front of the building in which the magazine's editorial office was located was filled with people. Spectators stood on fire escapes, looked out of windows, and sat on rooftops. Their number, stated by representatives of the magazine, totaled about 100 thousand people.

The acrobatic duo, demonstrating miracles of endurance and courage, toured different cities and countries, providing a spirit-lifting spectacle for the people yearning for free shows.
