In September 2023, Sergei, who volunteered for the war, came under mortar fire. His left leg had to be amputated and his right leg was seriously damaged. Now the man can only move around using a wheelchair or prostheses.

However, this did not prevent the military medical commission from assigning Sergei category B (limitedly fit for military service) in December.

He is currently being treated in hospital and is making attempts to challenge the decision of the medical commission.
