Policeman convicted of Floyd's murder was seriously wounded with a knife in prison (2 photos)
The prison where Derek Chauvin was held had already made headlines a year earlier when an inmate tried to shoot a visitor. The level of security in the institution is high!
Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin became famous after the brutal detention of a black man who soon died. The uproar that erupted after this incident gave rise to a real cult of repentance for African Americans, and the acronym BLM (Black Lives Matter or “Black Lives Equal”) is now known throughout the world.
Despite evidence that the previously convicted Floyd died not so much from strangulation as from a drug overdose, Chauvin was found guilty of murder, convicted and sentenced.
Derek Chauvin is serving a concurrent 21-year federal sentence for violating George Floyd's civil rights and a 22.5-year Minnesota second-degree murder sentence. Chauvin tried to appeal his conviction, but just this week the Supreme Court rejected his efforts.
The prisoner was initially held at a maximum security prison in Minnesota and then transported to a prison in Tucson. This correctional facility leaves much to be desired and, according to media reports, “suffers from security failures and staff shortages.” The prison houses about 380 people.
Yesterday, Friday, Chauvin was seriously wounded with a knife. And while the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that an inmate was assaulted at a correctional facility in Tucson, Arizona, it declined to name the victim. However, the Associated Press and the New York Times, citing informants, reported that it was Chauvin who was wounded.
It is known that none of the correctional facility employees were injured. The wounded man was transported to the hospital, and the prison itself was closed to visitors. The name of the inmate who attacked Chauvin has also not been released. It is also unclear how the prisoner ended up with a knife.
However, just over a year ago, the same correctional institution was already in media reports, when in November 2022, an inmate pulled out a gun and tried to shoot a visitor in the head. Fortunately, the weapon misfired then, but the very fact that the prisoner was armed and dangerous may indicate the chaos reigning in this prison.
