Maritime transport has been and remains one of the highest priorities. Neither railways, nor aviation, nor even the most promising modern alternative transport projects are capable of shaking the dominance of ships in the cargo transportation market. We will now talk about ships with the most impressive dimensions.

1. Knock Nevis

A supertanker that flew the Norwegian flag. During the voyage, this ship changed several names: Seawise Giant, Happy Giant, Jahre Viking, Knock Nevis, Mont. The vessel also changed its scope several times. They started building the ship back in 1974. It took 5 years to create it. Over the past decades, the ship has been improved several times. Its length was 458.45 meters, width - 68.86 meters. The ship weighed 81,879 tons, and the maximum carrying capacity is 564,763 tons. In 2010, the ship was scrapped.

2. Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller

The container ship is 399 meters long and 59 meters wide. The height of the vessel is 73 meters. The ship is propelled by two engines, each with a power of 43 thousand horsepower. Thanks to this, the maximum speed reaches 23 knots. If you stack all the containers on board the Maersk Mc–Kinney Moller into a wall, its length will be 111 kilometers.

3. CMA CGM Jules Verne

French container ship with a displacement of 160 thousand tons. The length of the ship is 396 meters, width 54 meters. Maximum speed is 22.5 knots. The engine power of this vessel would be enough to provide electricity to a city with a population of 16 thousand people. If you line up all the containers on board, its length will be 97 kilometers.

4. Emma Marsk

Another huge container ship. The ship was built in Denmark. It has 6 similar sister ships, created at the same shipyard. The length of the ship is 396 meters and its width is 63.1 meters. The container ship's displacement exceeds 156 thousand metric tons. This monster is loaded with containers using 20 cranes at once! The ship also uses a unique diesel engine, the only one of its kind at the moment. Its power is 109 thousand hp. During 24 hours of operation, it consumes 6,291 liters of fuel.

5.MSC Daniela

Container ship built in 2008. The length of the vessel is 366 meters and its width is 51 meters. It has a design that differs from most of its analogues, which makes MSC Daniela a unique ship in many ways. The container ship also features incredibly thin skin (while maintaining strength and rigidity), making it very light for its size.

6. CMA CGM Christophe Colomb

The newest French container ship, which was launched in 2009. Can carry 13,300 20-foot containers. The length of the ship is 365 meters, width 51 meters. This ship belongs to a new generation of container ships. It is also one of the cleanest ships today in terms of ecology.

7. Oasis of the Seas

The first cruise ship of its kind created by Americans. Thanks to him, a new class of cruise ships appeared - Oasis. 1.5 billion US dollars were spent on the construction of the liner. The length of the ship is 361 meters, width is 66 meters. The displacement of the passenger ship is 225,000 tons. The liner has 17 decks and 2,704 cabins. On board it can accommodate 6,360 passengers, who will be served by another 2,100 personnel. In addition to trivial restaurants, a casino and a theater, there is an entire ice skating rink on board the ship.
