A film telling the story of an investigation into multimillion-dollar frauds found itself at the center of a scandal surrounding the investigation of new multimillion-dollar frauds. And the producer ended up going to prison... Just like the hero of his film...

Surely you are well aware of the film “The Wolf of Wall Street”, which was released exactly 10 years ago. It tells the biographical story of Jordan Balford, an investor who quickly and easily became a millionaire by defrauding his clients and then ended up in prison.

Reality and cinema very often mirror each other. But in the story of The Wolf of Wall Street, the history of endless financial frauds was not just mirrored in each other, but turned into some kind of snake endlessly devouring its own tail...

Najib Tun Razak - Prime Minister of Malaysia 2009-2018, sentenced to 12 years in prison

In 2006, American Jordan Balford was released from prison, wrote a book and began speaking as a motivational speaker.

Meanwhile, a new Prime Minister appeared in Malaysia, who quickly settled into the leadership chair and created the Malaysian National Welfare Fund for the benefit of his population. Almost instantly, this fund turned into the basis for the theft of millions of dollars from the budget, and then billions.

Riza Aziz

This Prime Minister had an adopted son named Riza Aziz. The man apparently loved Hollywood films and Hollywood celebrities, so in 2010 he created the film company Red Granite Pictures.

This company bought the film rights from Jordan Belford and did not skimp on creating a masterpiece. Martin Scorsese was invited to direct. The main role was played by Leonardo DiCaprio. And the advertising campaign turned out to be so massive that The Wolf of Wall Street became one of the most significant film events of the year. In addition, the film received 5 Oscar nominations.

Several years passed before the international scandal surrounding the Malaysian Sovereign Wealth Fund erupted. The fund was convicted of money laundering. The leads quickly led law enforcement to the film company of Riz Aziz.

The US Department of Justice became interested in the film company's money. It turned out that all the company's funds are corrupt money. Riza Aziz is behind bars on charges of money laundering.

Meanwhile, Jordan Balford, well aware of the dark schemes, claims that he was cruelly deceived. He was convinced that he was signing an agreement with a pure investment company. The man is now suing for the right to revoke the sale of copyright in order to be able to film his second autobiography.

So The Wolf of Wall Street was created with great love for the story of a swindler swimming in luxury and deceit. They loved this story and lived inside a similar story themselves. At the same time, their film demonstrated the inevitable collapse of the fraud, but apparently they were sure that a different fate awaited them. But they were wrong...
