A Japanese man grew bananas in the middle of the road for two years (4 photos + 1 video)

A Japanese man planted three banana plants on a road median in Kuruma and watered them daily for two years before authorities noticed the planting.





A 50-year-old man was recently ordered to cut down plants he had illegally planted in the median of a busy city road and had been caring for for several years.

It is not clear why the Japanese decided to plant bananas on public land, and even on the middle lane, but in the end they began to interfere with the view of motorists. It was not difficult to figure out who was responsible: for the past two years, a local resident had been watering tropical plants at least twice a day. He was ordered to remove the planting or face up to a year in prison or a fine of 500,000 yen.



“It’s so sad... I feel lonely without my beautiful bananas,” the man admitted to reporters after he had to dig up the plants.





The situation was widely discussed throughout the country. On Day X, film crews from leading news channels arrived at the scene. They interviewed the gardener and filmed him trying to eat one of the unripe bananas. The fruit was too green, but the man ate it anyway.



How the banana lover managed to stay under police radar for so long, especially with his daily watering ritual, remains a mystery.

Luckily, the plants found a new home. Two of them ended up in the garden of an 80-year-old man, who promised to take good care of them, and the “banana man” gave the third to his friend for his birthday.
