“A real portrait should testify today and a hundred years from now what a person looked like and what he was like,” said Philip Halsman. Taking a photograph that captures the essence of a person requires dedication and commitment. One of these great photographers was the Latvian-born Philip Halsman (1906-1979), whose work to this day reminds us of the stars of the last century.

Oliver Halsman Rosenberg spoke about his artistic family: “I come from a line of artists: Philip was my grandfather, and my grandmother Yvonne was his assistant and a wonderful photographer. My mother is an artist and art teacher, so it’s in the DNA, and I continue a tradition of playful, mysterious and innovative art. Unfortunately, my grandfather died when I was a child, so I never really got to know him, but I have all his photographs, letters and audiotapes, so I feel that it is right I represent him."

This is what Philippe Halsman wrote about his portraits: “My main interest in life is people. A person changes throughout his life. His thoughts and moods change, facial expressions and even features change. And here we come to the most important problem of a portrait. If the appearance of a person "consists of an infinite number of different images, then which one should we try to capture? For me, the answer has always been this: the image that most fully reveals both the external and internal side. Such an image is called a portrait."
